1) Who are you and what is your website about?

I’m raincoaster; I’ve been blogging professionally under that name since 2002, on my own sites and for other blog networks. I remember Perez Hilton before he was PEREZ FREAKING HILTON (you know, back when he was a nice kid?). Lolebrity.net aims to do for celebrities what ICanHasCheezburger did for cats; it seems every day there’s at least one celebrity image that just screams out for snark, and I’m in the business of dishing it out. Sometimes I aim a little higher, like with my John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe “Quoth Anything” pic, but generally it’s just one fun/snarky/easy-to-digest image a day.

2) How many visits do you get each day?

It varies. Our first day, we got around 1700, thanks to a direct link from Gawker. Then Google kicked me to the curb and it stayed in the 100-150 range for a long time. Earlier this week, Google momentarily rediscovered my topless Helen Mirren post and BAM! Right up to 700 again. For. One. Day. Now the world has lost interest in Helen, it seems, and we’re back to our steady 250-300 a day and slowly climbing.

3) What has been the most explosive post on your blog and why?

Definitely the Helen Mirren post. I photoshopped it so it’s technically SFW, with little @ sign pasties and everything, but search engines can’t seem to make up their minds about whether it’s okay for Safe Search. It’s in, it’s out, and as goes the Helen Mirren post, so goes the rest of the blog, because they may come for the boobies, but they stay for the Clint Eastwood and the Katy Perry. If that post gets banned from Safe Search, so does the rest of the blog and poof, there go the hits.

4) What is the craziest/most interesting exchange you’ve seen in your blog comments and why?

Well, there are very few comments on Lolebrity, except for the pervs looking for more Miley Cyrus boobs, but on another of my sites I did once get into a flamewar with the nation of Albania, and when it comes to the dialogue on the existence of fairies in Devonshire, well, I’ve got a corner on the market, with over 2000 comments on that particular raincoaster.com post.

5) What is the best article for a new reader on your blog to see?

I’m very proud of the Ian McKellen anti-homophobia post. McKellen himself posted it to Twitter, which gave me quite the fangirl rush. The man is carved of solid awesome, and to see him promoting my work was an honour. You can get very jaded, doing celebrity blogging, and lolpix are not normally considered socially relevant or meaningful. Every now and again I can make a political or social point with this, possibly the most anti-intellectual medium of all, and it feels good.

We live in a celebrity-crazed culture. In my office alone, three of my otherwise intelligent co-workers routinely check Perez Hilton’s flashy pink website or TMZ to troll for the latest juicy celebrity gossip and rumors. People Magazine remains among the highest circulation magazines for a reason. Those like myself, who are on the outside looking in on all this madness, turn on the morning news before work and are flabbergasted to see the latest celebrity scandal given equal placement and air time with oh, I don’t know, the War in Afghanistan or the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster. I suppose the news people have to develop segments that appeal to all categories of life, and good ratings help pay the bills, but still.

As annoyed as I get with people who have to be in the know when it comes to every move celebrities make, I have to admit I get sucked into it too from time to time. It may be when I’m waiting in line at the checkout stand and I see a magazine headline about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s marriage supposedly hitting the skids (I like to see couples that hook up due to infidelity fall apart call it a twisted sense of justice). Or maybe it’s when I’m at the hairdresser and OK! Magazine happens to be the only reading material around.

What I really can’t stand is hearing about the same celebrity over and over again ad nauseam. Even before the recent “sexting” scandal, I felt sports commentators were overdoing it talking about Brett Favre. Old Man Favre’s little lapse in judgment means I’m seeing his mug all over the news these days yet again. The media overkill on Lindsay Lohan’s rehab stints just makes me sad every time I see it. Let the woman tackle her addictions in peace, people! And don’t even get me started on Jersey Shore’s vapid Snooki, who is famous for no good reason, or the ubiquitous Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, both poor actors who have perfected the art of looking stoned for the camera.

On October 13, 2010 a man climbed to the top of the Colony Square building in downtown Atlanta.  Police blocked off several streets in downtown Atlanta for 2 hours as a crowd gathered to watch the man make his decision.

Things appeared grim until beleaguered rapper T.I. arrived on the scene.  For those of you who don’t know T.I. has had a fun year in 2010.  He was released from jail, made a few songs, and now its looking like he will go back to jail for charges stemming from an arrest in California this year.

T.I. did himself and the man a favor today.  He showed up and convinced the man not to jump from the Colony Square building.  The internet is going crazy claiming that this is a publicity stunt to improve T.I.’s image and keep him out of jail.
