Religion Provides Success, Prosperity, and Safety

Religion is one of those hot button issues that can spark a debate in a moment’s notice.  Check our Religion Page if you don’t believe me.

When it comes to religion people have plenty of reasons to join.  From what I’ve seen the top ones are as follows:

  1. Family Tradition – Mom, Dad, and grandmom believe in a certain religion and they pass it on to you.  Like it or not this is how most people find a religion.
  2. Peer Pressure- Nobody wants to be an outsider.  Speaking as an African American man in the good ole US of A.  To top if off I live in the south.  In this circle if you don’t profess your love of Jesus Christ people look at you like you just punched a baby in the neck.
  3. Fear of the Unknown – I’ve run into plenty of people who pick religions and do a half ass job of participating because they don’t want to end up in hell (or their religion’s equivalent).

Personally, I get annoyed when someone gives me one of the above reasons to choose a religion.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love my folks but I’m not doing anything strictly because “my family does it this way”.  Peer pressure is for kids and I’ve read enough to not be worried about roasting in an eternal fire pit.

There is another reason (the best reason in my opinion) for joining a religion.  That reason is this.  Religion at its core should provide a roadmap on living a successful, prosperous, and safe life.  In its purest form it does.  Unfortunately, that message gets misconstrued and contorted through time, folklore, and human error.

So what do you think?
