It’s no secret that people hide behind the anonymity provided by the internet. People do and say things online that they wouldn’t dare do or say in a crowded room. In the past few years the internet has become the haven for news and general conversations. Conversations that were once private or conducted in small groups can now be heard by all. Depending on who you are that can certainly be a good thing.
Internet comments are a magical beast. Look at any large website and you’ll see what I mean. The comments section of the 2 largest websites that I read (CNN.com and AJC.com) read like a brain dump for idiots. Racism, closed mindedness, and straight out stupidity are often perpetrated behind the mask of the internet comments.
Some sites are turning to Facebook comments to address this problem. The sites that use Facebook commenting don’t suffer from the same problems as CNN and the AJC. Their comments are digestible and intelligent.
As the web grows larger more and more sites are turning to Facebook comments to control the type of discussion that goes on.
So here is the question of the day.
