It’s no secret that the US has been in financial trouble for a few years. Job growth is slow and unemployment is high. The economy is sputtering along like a 1971 Buick. The terrible nature of things has cast serious doubt on the feasibility of the “American Dream”.
That doubt has translated into a movement of sorts. It’s becoming more and more common to run into people who think college is a scam, a waste of money, a waste of time, or all three. By now we all know the story. We’ve been told to go to school, work hard, and get a good job that will take care of us for years to come. A whole slew of recent college graduates have been able to complete 2 out of 3. They’ve gone to school and worked hard but they haven’t found jobs. These are the people that think college is a waste.
By no stretch of the imagination is this a small number of people. A quick google search of the phrase “college is a waste” returns 199,000,000 results. With that type of popularity it would appear that college is losing some steam as a vehicle for economic growth.
What do you think?
