Imagine being down on your luck in the downtrodden economy. No income, barely having a roof, and the quarter tank of gas in your car is for emergencies. Then to make matters worst, you get sick. Not just the sniffles and a runny nose. A bad rash, uncontrollable temp, discolored fingernail beds, and sharp pains throughout your body. You have to go to the hospital but you have no insurance.
Upon arrival, its apparent to everyone that you need to be at the front of the line as you vomit on the floor. They ask your spouse what’s the problem and they explain the symptoms. You’re rushed to a room and placed in a bed. They ask your spouse for your insurance information and regretfully they explain that you have none at the moment due to lack of work and other items. Everyone leaves the room and as you sit there in pain, you realize you’ve been alone for 5, 10, 15, and now 30 mins. You yell for help.
Finally, someone arrives and says they are trying to get clearance to administer to you. Without insurance, you may be discharged without service. No insurance, No money, equals no service.
As unlikely as this sounds, this could become the case for many people if certain government officials have their way. Many consider the hospitals to be a business just like any retail or service business. You cannot take possession of clothing in Macy’s without purchase, you cannot leave with a buggy full of groceries without funds.
