There are a few golden rules to adulthood:
- Don’t have unprotected sex with weird people that you don’t know.
- Get a job. Go to that job. Sit at your desk. Shut your face.
- Don’t participate in neighborhood watch because nosey people get shot.
- Do unto others as you would have them do onto you.
- Don’t let family or friends borrow money that you will desperately need back.
#5 is by far the trickiest rule on this list. Family (or friends) and money rarely mix well. When a friend or family member borrows money they rarely treat you as seriously as they treat the bank. They dodge calls. They put guilt trips on you. Sometimes they flat out refuse to pay. When it happens your options are truly limited. There is rarely a paper trail for legal action. The family member is likely in an embarrassing financial bind that doesn’t allow them to promptly pay you back.
Money issues break families up all the time. Once a person abuses your money its hard to trust them; family member or not. So here is the question of the day.
