Who’s smarter: men or women? Age old question, right. I’ve personally heard several debates break out about this during parties, meetings, and at work. Making a declaration for a “smarter” sex is pretty difficult without close study.
There are three groupings used to structure this “smartness”: empirical observations, counterfactual arguments, and theories.
Theories are often overlooked because they can’t be proven. Counterfactual arguments play a key role as your ability to illustrate against what others deem as facts manifest an idea of smartness to many. Lastly, empirical observations give us our ideology based off what we have studied, experimented with, or observed.
Empirical Observations
- More women graduate from college
- Women are holding higher positions of authority
- Women generally score higher on IQ tests
Counterfactual arguments (counter to the above)
- Men are more likely to play sports, start their own business, or have wealth after high school (inheritance)
- Affirmative Action
- The test sways toward the female gender
There’s the info, you give us the verdict.
