What should be the 28th Amendment?

The constitution of the United States currently has 27 amendments.  These amendments were supposedly put in place to protect the lives and rights of American citizens.  Some notable amendments to the constitution are:

  • 1st Amendment - Freedom of speech
  • 2nd Amendment - The Right to bear arms
  • 13th Amendment - Abolishes slavery
  • 15th Amendment - Prevents the denial of the right to vote based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
  • 27th, Final, and Most Hilarious Amendment - Prevents laws impacting salary of congressmen from taking place until the next session of Congress starts.

The last constitutional amendment was made in 1992.  Since then there have been hundreds of bills passed and put into place.  Congress plays a constant back and forth game in which bills are passed, repealed, and filibustered to death.  There is a problem with this.  None of these bills are permanent.  It’s as if the constitution has been sealed off into a golden envelope where it will never be changed again.

That shouldn’t be the case.  The constitution should be a living breathing document that evolves over time.  With that in mind what do you think the 28th Amendment should be?

What should be the 28th amendment?
