According to Urbandictionary.com (Big_Al’s favorite resource) a snitch is:

• Someone who gives up incriminating evidence to people they have no business talking to in the first place. Some snitch because they need attention others snitch because they are scared.

When characterized this way providing information to the authorities seems like a chump move.  There are tons of idiots and criminals out there who believe you should never divulge information to the cops.

For most people this whole conversation is abstract so let’s bring this to your neighborhood.  There have been 4 bank robberies within a 25 mile radius of your home in the last month.  The robber drives a black van and uses an array of elaborate disguises to conceal his identity.  The person has gotten away with close to $200,000 during this time.

One day you’re out cleaning up in your backyard when you notice a strange vehicle in your neighbor’s yard.  That black van from the news is sitting in their garage.  You tiptoe over to the fence and see those crazy disguises lining the wall of the van.

The last year was a tough one for the guy.  He was unfairly fired in a political power play at work, his wife of 10 years left him, his vehicle was repossessed and his house is next.
