Are Home Phones Useless?

13 Comments 27 January 2011

There was once a time when the landline phone was the central piece of conversational hardware in a household.  If your house had one line you were S.O.L. until the person on the phone stopped talking.  The phone could only be used in and around the home.

Fast forward to today.  Everyone and their mother (possibly even their grandmother) has a cell phone.  Cell phones can go virtually anywhere and they are highly personal to the user (no more waiting for Granny to quit gossiping with your aunt).  It isn’t uncommon to go into a home and realize that they don’t have a landline.  Cable and telephone companies are basically giving landlines away for free to break even on their investment in the technology (if you can call it that).

As cell phones continue to advance landlines are quickly becoming a thing of the past.
