Being friends with a person of the opposite sex is ALWAYS tricky (especially if that person is attractive).  The temptation to get naked and practice making babies is immense.  When its your ex things are even more chaotic.

When you’re in a relationship with a person they learn things that others never will.  That person has seen you naked.  That person has been around you in times of extreme joy and pain. That person knows what you love and hate.  That person knows what time you take a dump in the morning.  They know everything.

Friendships are based on commonality, support, and fun. Presumably these same elements exist in our relationships. With friendships there are LIMITS. Those limits allows friendships to endure for lifetimes while relationships may last for a few winters.

Befriending an ex creates all sorts of ambiguity and confusion that normal friendships don’t have.

• Your ex will invariably be jealous of your next mate.
• Your ex will likely come to you for sex in times of need.
• The person who got dumped will ALWAYS want an explanation well after the dust has settled.
• You and your ex will struggle to find a comfort zone for your new relationship in conversations, humor, and trust.

The list goes on and on.  With that in mind do you think its possible to really be friends with your ex?
