Certain athletes are considered to be extreme by the nature of their undertakings. MMA fighters, bull riders, motorcycle racers, sky divers, and ice climbers are people that we typically view as “crazy”. Their will and drive is outside the realm of what most people can comprehend.
Marathon runners also fall into this category. They don’t place themselves in any particular physical danger (see MMA fighters and bull riders) but they do push themselves. As a matter of fact they push themselves through 26 miles of sweat, stench, dry lips, sharp back pains, and runny noses. All of this is done while running up slopes and fighting that little voice that says “just stop running, its ok”.
26 miles is a LOOOOONG way to run. Most people don’t have the mettle to complete a marathon. Do you?
