Working out is an essential part of life. A lack of physical activity can lead to major problems as you age. A short list of very bad things that can happen if you refuse to remain active are:
- Gaining Massive Amounts of Weight
- High Blood Pressure
- Increased risk of heart disease (the #1 cause of death in America)
Those threats alone should be enough to get a person in the gym. The act of merely working out isn’t enough. As you kick up the intensity and push yourself more you get better results. I tend to categorize people in 4 major groups when it comes to working out.
- Lazy - This person is in the gym for the sake of going. They don’t sweat, they read magazines on the machines, and they are done before the workout starts.
- Average – This person has all the best intentions and they put in a little more effort than their friends in the lazy category. They work up a small sweat and put in enough effort to make themselves feel good. They push themselves but not much. This person will typically have a rough outline of their workout.
- Hard Worker – This person has everything in place. They have a plan and they come to the gym to work. They socialize a little bit, but their trip is mainly about results. They put in the effort, sweat heavy, push themselves to new limits (heavier weights, more reps, aim for shorter running times, etc). They see results due to their hard work.
- Maniac – Extreme personality. They take everything the hard worker does and multiplies them all by 10. This person is typically screaming, hollering, and making everyone in the gym feel slightly uncomfortable (all while bench pressing 450 lbs). They work hard and then they work harder.
Which one are you (don’t be afraid to admit you’re lazy)?
