Affirmative action was initially introduced in John F. Kennedy’s Executive Order 10925 as a government mandate for contractors. It was initially intended to promote equal opportunity for persons who were discriminated against based on race, sex, or other factors. It has since morphed into a federal program that encourages a racial and sexual rainbow of promotion within a company.
The Survey Magnet community has already addressed the ethical nature of affirmative action in a December 2009 post. We know how you feel about the ethical nature of the program.
California and Michigan have banned affirmative action within their boundaries. In these 2 states companies can choose whether they want to adhere to affirmative action quotas. Companies in the other 48 states are not so lucky.
