The internet really took off in the mid to late 1990′s. This explosion created a serious shift in terms of information and its reliability.
Prior to the advent of internet publishing the major news corporations controlled information. If you weren’t involved with Viacom, Fox, Turner, the BBC, or another giant you could forget about getting your message across to millions.
Internet publishing changed all this. Now anyone with the time and energy to create a significant following can do so (with little or no financial investment).
These days you can have a site up and running in 10 minutes. That can be both good and bad as the information isn’t policed or credited in any way. With more and more blogs popping up (Technorati tracks over 112 million) it can be tough to trust the information.
What percentage of information on the web do you trust?
