IQ of Public Officials

It has been said that you don’t need to be a very smart person.  Mark Lunsford Pryor, a United States Senator from Arkansas has corroborated this statement on film.

Traditionally, a person’s ability to persuade and influence people has been the most important factor in gaining public office.  This has led to a litany of poor legislators and backlash from the public.  Some (including yours truly) think that there should be an IQ requirement for public officials.

What do you think?

What IQ level should public officials have?

Doesn’t take a genius to listen to the people you represent and act in their best interest.

100% disagree. I want smart people in office who are competent enough to do their jobs. A politicians job involves a lot more than listening to people and acting in their best interest.

Well we obviously don’t have geniuses in Congress… and see what they do….still feel that way?

There are geniuses in several other positions in the world and yet things are still jacked up. i.e. Zillions of gallons of oil in the gulf coast.

Most geniuses aren’t people persons. So what if someone knows differential calculus, all of the mathematical theorems, and linear derivative concepts, or can beat you in chess with three moves, when he/she gets in office, none of that comes into play. Most people just want their government run with a mindset knowledgeable of their spending, and to not place a landfill next to their house.

Congress represents the people. Most people aren’t geniuses. When and if you vote, do you research IQ test, or the person’s Pre-Cal grade in college or do you listen to their thoughts/views and select someone who’s ideas are more in line with your own?

I agree with Marcus and Emcee. We don’t have any intellect in most offices now. Barack was the first scratch at smartness and he’s turning the country around. Imagine if we had more IQ 120s out there.
