The bible belt consists of the southern states of the U.S. where protestantism is the dominant religion and culture.  This religion and culture are responsible for many of the South’s beliefs and ways of life.  Some of these religious beliefs have made it into the government and resulted in the output of “Blue Laws”.

“Blue Laws” are laws that support religious beliefs.  One of the more popular of these laws is the prohibition of alcohol sales on Sunday.  Sunday is respected as a day of worship and of no work.  The bible belt is possibly one of the more upholding regions of prohibition of alcohol sales on Sunday.

Many states are attempting to  fight their way out of the recession and are looking to maximize government’s monetary intake.  Sunday alcohol sales would be a great way to do so.  But is it morally right?  Should bible belt states go against their strong beliefs to sell alcohol on Sundays?

Should states in the bible belt sell alcohol on Sunday?
