We live in a world full of war. By being a U.S. citizen, our wars are different than most as my generation has never had to experience a war on our home soil. I get up, go to work, come home. Imagine if you had to dodge mortar shells, step lightly looking for mines, or wear bullet proof vests just to go to work or school.
Unfortunately, many Afghans and Iraqis have to experience this. But never fear! The United States will save you!
Why? Why are we fighting for a country that is almost 7000 miles away? What is the U.S. to gain? Oil, Land, Gold, Coal, what? Is there a secret buried treasure that we the public don’t know about?
I personally think we have enough drug rings entering the country and terrorist organizations breading on U.S. soil that would deserve much more attention than people who have historically been fighting for years and will continue to fight.

Did you know we spend almost 10 times as much on defense as the next 10 countries combined?
We waste too much money on issues that affect us indirectly.
We went to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan as PREVENTATIVE strikes…meaning (for all the young retards who infest this site)we went to PREVENT FUTURE STRIKES AGAINST US by killing the problem at the root.
We can’t handle another 9-11, much less a constant barrage of 9-11s, and that’s what we’d get if we just lie down and fold our hands on our chests every time an enemy throws a stone. Throw back? Why not go for their rock pile instead, ensuring no more rocks are thrown!
Plus, there’s the little matter of PROTECTING OUR ALLIES–we have agreements in place with other countries that guarantee protection in exchange for something else (what specifically, I don’t know). In most cases of foreign combat, we’re just honoring commitments.
I need to chop this rant down in segments
Let me say this right off the bat. The young people that infest this site hold engineering degrees and MBAs. So unless you are packing serious mental ammunition I’d suggest you keep the word retard to yourself.
9-11 happened one time and it was nearly ten years ago.
That’s the same “we own the world, kill ‘em dead, get ‘er done” bs that has caused Americans to feel this sense of entitlement that we feel.
You mentioned being a housewife before so I assume you have kids. If a kid attacks your kid are you going to instruct him/her to light up the other kids house with an RPG as a “preventative” measure? That would put a stop to it right?
It’s funny how we are gung-ho to honor foreign income generating commitments, while squirting a water gun at domestic gentrification, education, and quality of life.
Things that make you go hmmm?
I’ve read it was the next 15 countries.
Tell me this…. Where is the rock pile and how long does it take “overtake” this rock pile? Every since I can remember, we’ve always gotten involved in other countries’ matters. I don’t feel anymore safe and actually feel somewhat less confident in a government that will spend 3 million on a rocket to destroy a group of sheep herders than put 60 students through college.
The only problem is we chasing a ghost and throwing money at a problem that is tiny. Yes I would like a our country to be safe but going after a network of 1,000 with an army of 100,000 seems a bit overkill. The media has you all FEAR’ed up…
If we are in the business of preventative striking…why weren’t we striking before 9/11? We obviously knew Osama and crew were up to something. Can you really prevent what you don’t know is going to happen? In the meantime don’t you think we are just pissing off the middle east everyday that we are over there? I know if I lived over there and bombs were hitting my hut I’d vow to get revenge.
As for young retards, please lighten up and understand that some comments are light jokes and jabs to get people fired up…it’s really not that serious. IT’S THE INTERNET.
Sometimes America’s interest can extend beyond our borders. The issue becomes how to effectively, and responsibly, protect those interests without stepping on the toes of every -stan and other country that doesn’t have a real rosy view of the United States in the first place. We can reduce our expenditures on the defense budget by scaling back to protect those interests which are vital (energy, ports, sea lanes, overseas citizens etc) and refocus more on defending ourselves from an attack on your own soil.
The world is a very different place than it was in 1941. To be absolutely truthful, I would rather have another Pearl Harbor than a 9/11. At lease with Pearl Harbor, you know who your enemies are.
And Just to piggyback Emcee:
If our country is such a PREVENTATIVE one, why don’t we focus as much time and attention on preventing economic meltdowns, preventing people from losing their homes, prevent people who have been working the last 30 years from watching their retirement dreams get eaten up by Wall Street mogul mon-stahs, prevent the value of the dollar from down spiraling, prevent the social security system from going down the drain, or prevent any of the other socioeconomic injustices from rotting the country.
My point is this. We spend just a stupid of amount of money tackling people with no shoes in a desert. How about we become as determined to fix just one of the issues plaguing our home soil?
I want to know who the retards are.
I’m glad this site has a E-Referee to moderate the masses.
Dag, that guy made everyone mad.
I for one think we should fight for non-US issues … if we get paid. I mean, we’re going around being the world police. We need to get paid for that. Otherwise, let those people fend for themselves.
