Which gadget would you buy?

We  live in the most technological era of our world.  We have so many items that were thought to be unthinkable just 20 years ago.  I for one love technology.  Most of the time, my only regret is that I didn’t think of them first.

Here are a few upcoming technologies that I’ve been reading about.

Blu-ray 3D player

Sony is leading the world by preparing to roll out the first 3D ready Blu-ray player.  The BDP-S470 is not quite ready for 3D just yet but is expected to be ready by this summer.  A firmware upgrade will complete this 3D readiness.  This same upgrade is believed to be able to make the PS3 ready for 3D as well.  (Another reason why the Playstation is a better choice over Microsoft’s Box thingee)

The Ipad

Steven Paul Jobs has done it again.  This time he has unveiled the Ipad which “provides internet at your fingertips”.  But I thought we already had internet at our fingertips with all the smartphones, already existing, iTouch, and various other mini notebooks and Panera bread locations.  To me, it looks just like a big cumbersome iTouch.  I’ve heard news stories of school districts wanting to get contracts with Apple to use this as the textbook replacement.  With a 9 inch screen, weighing in at 1.5 lbs and a half inch thickness, I really am confused as to its purposeful use.  But I’ll let you spend the $600+ to be the judge.

Garmin-Asus M10

Garmin wants their piece of the smartphone game.  They introduce the Asus M10 which will be the second phone to run Windows Mobile 6.5.3 (the latest version).  It comes equipped with the bells of whistles of the business world – email, contacts, calendar, instant messaging, and GPS of course.  Appearance is like that of any other touchscreen smartphone.  Just depends on if you want to venture into another “reliable” Windows device.

Nexus One

First thing that comes to mind – Did Google get tired of making apps for Apple and decide to just make a phone for their apps.  I mean it makes all the business sense in the world.  The Nexus One 3.7″ screen, with a 100,000:1 contrast ratio, a 5MP camera device, bluetooth, a Qualcomm QSD 1 GHz processor, Android operating system, with 512MB of RAM boasts as a mini computer.  The Nexus has been referred to as the iPhone killer which is highly unlikely but I definitely think it will get a strong share of the market.

So which tickles your fancy.  With your pockets bulging with green, what gadget would you acquire?  If not one of these, drop down to the Comments Section and enlighten me to what else is out there…

If you had the money which gadget would you buy?

I need a none option or fill in the blank. I want a 7.1 receiver or a pop corn hour to stream movies to my TV from my NAS device.

  2. Derrick says:

I would go with the nexus one phone. Google hasn’t let me down yet.

  3. Emcee says:

Ipad is just an overgrown iPhone, Nexus is just another Android phone with horrible customer service, Garmin Phone? you gotta be kidding me.

This leaves the 3D Blu-Ray the default winner. Just like 7.1 audio, it will be a while (if ever) until 3D is mainstream.

Why does the Nexus have horrible customer service?

  5. Marcus says:

I’ll go with the 3d blu-ray player because Sony rocks my socks off.

  6. BigAl says:

I’ll but into 3D technology when I don’t have to wear uncomfortable glasses.

Cause GOOGLE is not in the phone business, how can a company release a phone and have email support for the millions who follow it. Lately Big G has opened up some phone lines I believe but only after they were bashed for not doing so originally.

Side note: I love google, but I think they failed with the Nexus overall.

So have all the apps that has popularized the iPhone not been the efforts if Google in the phone business?

You lost me, but Google had little to do with the greatness of the iPhone.

Really! I thought Google made the wonderous 15,000 apps that are on the iPhone. So are you saying that everyone rushed out to buy the iPhone just to touch on the screen?

Um…Google made the standard Maps app, google Earth and the google mobile app.

Yeah, everyone digs the multitouch…so much other companies created phones to mimic it.

I stand corrected then. I thought that several ex-google/iphone developers developed the “hack” software for the iphone and the many apps for it.

Put me down for NONE OF THE ABOVE too. What gadget do I want? Something that will help me make bread out of ground beans and grains.

I also want a gadget that will make global warming worshipers disappear. :)
