Although both my uncle and grandfather served in the military, I would not encourage my child to fight for a country that doesn't fight for him/her.

The fact of the matter is somebody has to do it. I would not encourage it nor would I discourage it. I would ensure that my child has viewed all his/her options before deciding on a career in the military. If he/she then chose to go, I would definitely want the Air Force or Navy to be the option.

Truth be told, most of the kids in the military are from poor families and are trying to put themselves through college.

I know there are kids that choose to go in the military but all the "bright" ones go to the Navy and the Air Force where they know their chance of survival is much higher.

My children will be able to make their own choices but I feel they will have enough intelligence to see what is going on in the world and see that we are fighting some senseless wars.

LOL, I can't stop them but I can present them with alternatives which I would try my darndest to do. However, I'd probably feel like a failure if my kid came up to me talking about I want to go shoot and kill people that politicians say are a threat to my country. It would be a slap in the face because instead of contributing, he wants to take away.

;-)

Now, if they said they wanted to build new and exciting bombs to destroy gobs of people at one time, I'd be happy as a parent. Disturbed, but happy.

Ahhhh, no!! In this day and age...I say no. Yeah, once he turns 18 I am sure he will be able to make wise decisions on his own. However, if it was up to me, I say....no way Hosea!

I would prefer that my son not join the military but his dad retired from the military so I would definitely respect his choice if he chose to join.

I would probably let them know that military is not a choice I would select, but they would be grown so I would respect that and let my child make their own decision. Plus, I have several members in the military so I really cannot frown so heavily upon it.

If I ever have children, I would be very proud of them if they choose to serve in the military.

Is it really MY decision if they are allowed to join the military? They are of legal age to make those decisions and as such I have no issue with them taking that path if that is what will make them happy.
