Do You Have to Gain Weight As You Get Older?

An almost universally accepted truth of life is this:

You will gain weight as you get older.

It is true that a few things happen as you age:

  • Your activity rate lowers.
  • Your metabolism slows down.
  • You eat the same amount or more food than you ate as a younger person.

All of these factors can contribute to weight gain at an older age.  Just because they can contribute doesn’t mean that you have to gain weight as you get older.

I’ve seen several people use their age as an excuse for gaining weight.  What do you think about the situation?

Is gaining weight a part of getting older?

Some old folks are decrepit because they didn’t exercise, but there is a point where the body/joints will not allow it.

Weight gain will occur. To deny this, your entire day would have to devote to workouts. And your aging body would no allow that.
