Two things immediately come to mind whenever I hear the words “victimless crime”:
- Drug usage
- Consensual prostitution
Before you swallow my head allow me to explain.
Drug Usage
Never once in my life have I felt the need to smoke pot, sniff crack, or pop a pill made in someone’s apartment. If it is not cleared by the FDA I will not partake. My first encounter with a marijuana blunt was enough to shatter my dreams. I watched a friend go through the entire process of rolling a marijuana blunt:
- Open a cigar and empty the contents
- Reach under his bed and grab a translucent micro-bag of Mary Jane
- Fill empty cigar with Mary Jane
- Lick and spit all over cigar
- Roll it tight
- Light it up
- Puff, puff, pass
If a may borrow a word from a 3 year old girl that I know…YUCK (or pa-tooey if you prefer). In any event, that one encounter was enough to turn me away from drugs.
I was grossed out beyond repair, but he and his partner were having fun. No one got hurt that night (or left his bedroom for that matter).
Consensual Prostitution
I never thought I’d be as comfortable with prostitution as I am. I loosened up on the subject after a friend of mine started using their services. After a little soul searching I understand his standpoint. We live in a sex crazed society in which supply rarely meets demand. Sex is purchased in some shape, form, or fashion anyway. So why not just get it over with quickly?
People get high and pay for sex every second of every day. If no one is harmed in the process, should we really use our resources to charge them with crimes?
