Is President Obama underperforming as the commander in chief?

While President Barack Obama was running for office against Senator McCain, his largest feat, if any, was to disprove the nay sayers about his ability to lead a country as the commander in chief.  When it came to the Iraqi war, Obama was quoted on several ideas and comments:

  • Unwise war in Iraq distracted us from catching Bin Laden
  • The surge is a tactic to contain 4 years of mismanaged war
  • You don’t defeat a terrorist network by occupying Iraq
  • I will only send our troops into harm’s way when necessary
  • $2.7 billion each week of Iraq spending is unsustainable
  • The Iraq war has undermined our security
  • End the war, and end the mindset that got us into war

…the list goes on and on.  However, just this week I’ve heard reports that Barack is sending more troops to Iraq and spending has surpassed $2.7 billion weekly.  So is he up to par?  Is President Obama coming through on his promises?

I don’t think he is under performing as CiC. I think he is under performing on all the promises he made while running for office.

Exactly!  He’s underperforming in being the agent for “CHANGE” that had everybody saying “Yes, We Can”.  As far as being your everyday politician turned US president, lol, PERFECT PERFORMANCE!!!

Then again, that is what I expected.

I think he is severely under performing as a leader. However, he is excelling as a politician. Who didn’t see that coming?

Totally agree. I was on that “Yes, We can” kick. Sold on the dream of ending the war and putting money back in the taxpayers pockets. But here we are almost a year later, still fighting and planning to fight some more. He is a determined politician. A very smart guy I would say, or at least smart enough to put together a great cabinet. But it seems as if he’s stuck in the white collar world.

…when he’s not having beer with white cops and black assailants.

Obama has proved that he doesn’t walk on water, can’t break the bi-partisanship of Washington, or make Wall Street accountable to Main Street. He sounds like every other President I’ve known.

I’ll give him this…his campaign was sweet.

That 30 minute commercial was a tear jerker.

I disagree with the cabinet statement. This is a fun graph. http://blog.american.com/?p=7572

That’s one promise he came through on.

Why break partisanship in Washington?  You need that distraction so you can keep the people divided and ram all types of crazy policies down the throats of the american people.

One cool thing about Obama though is the fact that although we got 3 more years of this madness, the other team has NO viable candidates and even if they did, they’d suck anyway.  We’re all out of options.

Even better, what if McCain had got in and had his heart attack and Palin was running the show.

    DRILL BABY DRILL!!!!!!

Gas would be so high we’d be burning books to drive our cars.  Damn, isn’t that what she wants?

I had to pick the “Who’s Obama” b/c that’s just a funny choice.

Or if Obama and Biden go down and we have Pelosi leading the charge. ….yikes

You know they amended that so that if the VP ever becomes Pres. he’d have to pick another VP…. if the get ‘em both scenario happened we’d have more to worry about than Pelosi.

  16. Derrick says:

Oddly enough, Obama displayed his ability to spend more money and progress the war last night during his speech. How do you feel knowing we just committed another 30 Billion to the war.

  17. Marcus says:

I’m not surprised that we are doing it. Its very easy to campaign against a war that you have no executive responsibility for. The game changes entirely when you have to fully access the situation.

  18. Kandi says:

Honestly, I think he’s done/doing the best he can given the mess he inherited. That’s a lot to sort through. Even still …it is politics.
