Unless you live in a bubble childhood fights are unavoidable. Children don’t have the emotional control to take rejection, punishment, mockery, and other childhood trauma without resorting to violence.
Most people teach their children not to start fights. This is reasonable advice as it keeps the child from becoming an absolute tyrant. A surprising number of people instruct their child to avoid fighting altogether (even when they are attacked). This seems like a surefire way to turn your child into a punching bag.
When I was a child I was told to bring the pain if someone started a fight with me. I was successful most of the time (can’t win ‘em all
), but I’m going to teach my child the same thing.
