Why Does Religion Frown So Heavily on Homosexuality?

Last week the Are Men Becoming Too Feminine Post was hijacked.  It started out as a conversation about men and exploded into a semi-war with everything from allegations of homosexuality, defenses of homosexuality, bible verses, and even an Indiana Jones reference thrown into the fray.

We can’t let a discussion like that bite the dirt so quickly.  We (religious and non-religious) understand that homosexuality is not a path that the majority of people follow, but the masses are not always right.

Same sex attraction is far beyond my realm of comprehension. I don’t understand it and I really don’t want to. Having said that, I don’t see it as my place to restrict a good sword fight when two consenting red blooded men want to have one.

The religious segment of Survey Magnet came out fairly strong against homosexuality last week.  Honestly, I’m still not clear on the reasoning behind it.  Do us a favor and tell us why homosexuality is such taboo.

People fear what they do not know, hate what they fear, and the “Moral Majority” do not really know what being Gay is all about.

Yep, you guessed it your neighborhood freedom fighter. The Bible-beaters are afraid that the “sinners” will turn everyone gay and then we’ll all be living in sin… just moreso than we already are.
Oh, and I’m still waiting for the Bible verse that says God doesn’t create gay people or imperfect people for that matter.

You have to look at the evolution of religion as to why the ones in the majority now hate homosexuality.  Way back when man were a bunch of cave and savannah dwellers (which most modern day religions say never happened but I’ll just confuse those people with their own book when they ask it), they had a habit of having multiple gods and their multiple gods were just like humanity during its infancy, bisexual.  Throughout history you’ll see all types of references in the early days of various religions of phallic worship, group sex, same-sex relations, as well as your traditional sexual relations for breeding purposes.  ;-)

This polytheistic worship was chaos in one’s search for the truth so a lot of people practicing them felt empty.  Especially when you look deep into them, the gods were merely reflections of themselves.  I don’t know when the first monotheistic cult popped up, how long it lasted and the like, but I’m sure these cults had an influence on what would later become the majority monotheistic religions we have today.  ;-)  Besides, monotheists have to differentiate themselves from that chaos so of course, their practices have to be a bit more rigid.

If you look at the evolution of the three major monotheistics, you’ll note that their early references to things that are anti-Christian are somewhat shaky.  You’ve got polygamy/polyamory (King Solomon’s multiple wives ), homosexuality ( David and Jonathan/ Ruth and Naomi ), and even the subjugation of women to men.  :-)  These are all things we frown upon and call anti-Christian these days but if one reads the original version ( King James 1611 and older ) you start to question the validity of these claims.  I even wonder whether some of their past holy figures really were gay and the idea of homosexuals being evil as debate between early christian/jewish/islamic scholars as well.

An argument a gay friend has brought up to me was, one of their leaders hung around 12 dudes all the time.  If none of the craziness involving Mary Magdalene is true, then just what the heck was going on?

    Have fun.

You’re going to be waiting a LONG time for that verse.  I know I’ve been waiting on it.

The bible is against it, so I am against it to. Didn’t God destroy two cities behind that foolishness?? Sodom and Gomorrah, right? Wasn’t the primary evil there homosexuality? Ahhh, I believe it was. God says if you are not for Him, then you are against Him! I choose Jesus! I choose eternal life in heaven.

Weren’t there cities mentioned in the new testament that were worse than Soddam and Gomorrah? Why didn’t God destroy those too? God seemed to be more loving in the new testament.

So when are you leaving the US?

I mean, if you take sodom and gommorah to be accurate (that place was so filled with homosexual lasciviousness) that when two angels came to Lot’s house, the homosexuals tried to beat the door down just to get to those two new men.  Sounds like Atlanta to me, but thats a different story.  This whole country is filled with that and well, I know pompeii was destroyed and after unearthing it, all of those symbols of phallic worship were uncovered.  Its just a matter of time before fire and brimstone rains down on various US cities by your logic and the people venturing away from it that look back start turning into salt statues.  We still haven’t reported the uncovering of any evidence of this happening but eh, we haven’t reported the uncovering of any evidence of the stargate existing so … that doesn’t mean either is any less real.

You’ve got your warning.  So when are you packing up and leaving and where are you going?  I know you believe there’s always warning before disaster and you’ve had it.

I am wise grasshopper. I am old enough and wise enough to know and interpret right from wrong. I live righteously so that my days may be long on the earth.
