I found myself sitting at home the other night working on some business matters. I scribbled a few “to do” items on a sticky note with my favorite pen. I checked off my day’s agenda items from my legal pad. I gathered my financial documents together, placed a paper clip on them and filed them away. Lastly, I had some info to print out but I didn’t want to print 30 pages at home.
- Should I just wait until I get to work tomorrow and print it out (my home office is furnished compliments of my job: sticky notes, pens, legal pads, paper clips, etc)
- Should I go ahead and print it out and move one step closer to buying the $22.98 printer cartridge (man, that’s expensive!!)

Neither. I get extorted by kinkos because
1) most of the documents I print either have to be signed or only looked over. If its a look over why am I printing this out when I can just email you the document. If I need to sign something, instead of printing it out, signing it, and faxing/delivering it to whomever, there is technology available to handle that as well. Printing it out is a waste of technology and trees. Especially if the document is going to change after its viewed or its made irrelevant afterwards.
2) Chances are if I have a useful document to print that is going to only viewed and ripped to shreds but its vitally important that a group of people see it in person ( Note: one of the few valid excuses for a meeting ) then a home printer would be completely inadequate for my use. Hell, the printer at the job would give big stares. ”Why are you using poster sized paper Michael?”
3) I don’t want those nosey network admins at the job having a chance to “review” my documents after I’ve printed them. Depending on the job, the print server may or may not store and hold all print jobs on media that you don’t have permissions to delete from.
Trees were made to be chopped down.
Print? You probably still write checks too don’t you?
i guess online banking could be considered as check writing since they actually mail a physical check to the payee
I use a bit of both. I do a lot of work from home in which I print, so if I think of something personal at work that I need to print, I definitely do it because I have a laser printer at work….but it is by no means from “the man’s pocket” because we have to purchase our own toner cartridges.
You need a new job. LOL
@Derrick…I agree!
