Wikipedia defines a video game as:

An electronic game that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device. The word video in video game traditionally referred to a raster display device.However, with the popular use of the term “video game”, it now implies any type of display device. The electronic systems used to play video games are known as platforms; examples of these are personal computers and video game consoles. These platforms range from large computers to small handheld devices.

These days there are 4 dominant systems:

  • Sony’s Playstation Series (Playstation 1, Playstation 2, and Playstation 3)
  • Microsoft’s Xbox ( Xbox and Xbox 360)
  • Nintendo (Gamecube, Wii)
  • Sega (Dreamcast)

    Although I have an XBox, I think the Playstation is best. I have had considerable problems with mine and so have many of my friends. My friends with the Playstation have less to complain about with problems. Graphics are the same to me.

    Until halo comes out on PS3, I will continue to suck XBox ****.

  3. Emcee says:

    While I think Playstation is nice, I really think XBOX is better because it has been cheaper, has a larger online community (though they charge) and of course they have the Halo franchise (which has gone downhill from the start). I also think the XBOX controller is better, graphics being equal and possibly better titles I give the slight edge to XBOX.

    @Emcee:
    Have you had your XBox went into red light mode yet? If so, how long have you had it?

  5. Marcus says:

    Sony by a mile. Graphics are a wash, sony games are better, online is FREE, it plays Blu-Ray discs, and I haven’t had to take it back yet. I have a buddy who has received the red light of death 5 times with 5 different Xbox 360s.

    Nintendo…what!! A classic!!! Actually, a atari was really the best of all…Donkey Kong and Pac Man rule!!!

  7. Marcus says:

    @Nita:

    I hate to say it but the classics suck in comparison to the systems of today. I’ve tried to go back and play the nintendo before. I can barely stomach 10 minutes of it.

    @Emcee:

    You haven’t played Halo 3 ODST have you?

  9. Emcee says:

    @Derrick: I’ve had my xbox 2 years, it did the RROD one time. I unplugged it and it stopped doing it. I know all about the reliability issues, and I think it’s still a better system. Maybe I’m just a playstation hater…
    @BigAl: No I haven’t, H3 really turned me off, the multiplayer just lost all of the feel. COD does it much better. MODERN WARFARE 2, I CAN’T WAIT.

    @Emcee:
    I too have an XBox and I know of ALL the problems that have come along with it. I have normally considered myself a Playstation hater but the fact of the matter is that all the people I know with a Playstation have not had any of the XBox related problems that I have experienced.

  11. Marcus says:

    @Emcee:

    It can’t be a better system if its non functional.

  12. Derrick says:

    @Marcus:
    Totally agree. Good graphics. Red light.

  13. Emcee says:

    @Marcus:
    The non-functioning aspect of the xbox is true. But you can make an argument for when it is functioning with xbox live, it is better. Hands down. You don’t judge systems when they don’t work, this is a reliability issue not a “is this a good system issue.”

  14. Marcus says:

    @Emcee:

    You can’t dictate the criteria I use for grading a system. Functionality is a big issue to me. What happens if you get that red light and you are no longer under the warranty?

    What makes it a better system *when functioning* hands down?
