How is the Government Spending My Money?

Have you ever taken a close look at your paycheck?  If you have then you’ve noticed a section called Taxes.  This is what I like to call the “Involuntary Donation to Society”.

On my paycheck I am currently donating to four unknown friends. I involuntarily donate to each of my dear pals every 2 weeks. In alphabetical order those friends are:

  • FICA – Med – $31.76
  • FICA – OASDI – $135.76
  • FED INC TX – $209.46
  • GA STATE – $93.92

Multiply each of these by 26, add them up, and you get over $12,000.  That is $12,000 that I’ll never see. It is forever lost in the abyss of the government.  I’m not naive enough to say that the government shouldn’t tax people.  Without taxes we wouldn’t have roads, schools, and the infrastructure around which we live our lives.

Should there at least be a forum where the government explains in laymen’s terms what is done with our money?

Should the Government Publicly Explain How They Spend Our Money?
