The Recession

7 Comments 21 August 2009

Recently I overhead a conversation that went like this:

“I have a job with a reputable Fortune 500 company.  I have an above average salary backed with two degrees.  I have great credit.  I have an SUV and a sports car.  I live in a good neighborhood with a nice home.  All my bank accounts have commas.  I moved my 401k into an IRA and have not lost a dime.  So why does the news keep telling me that I’m in a recession?

They keep saying that retail sales are down, and people are spending less.  For some reason, I feel compelled to spend less because after all, Channel 5 did say we are in a recession.”

Are we really in a recession or has the media blown the situation out of proportion?

Has the media made the recession worse?
